Secure 2.0 made changes to the rules about catch-up. By adding Roth options to your plan, you can offer participants a new, meaningful way to save for retirement.
What’s happening?
Section 603 of the SECURE Act 2.0 requires all age-based catch-up contributions from higher-income earners (those making $150,000 or more in FICA wages) to be Roth contributions. This threshold is indexed and may increase over time to reflect inflation.
What this means for your plan
Plans that haven’t implemented a Roth feature are no longer able to offer age-based catch-up contributions to these employees. Updating your plan now ensures that you remain compliant and unlocks a valuable retirement-savings tool for your participants.
